Festival Day

On Sunday, the heart of Childers is transformed into an action-packed hub of live music, vibrant markets, and unforgettable festival fun, thanks to the one-day-only highway closure that turns the main street into a buzzing pedestrian playground.

With over 300 stallholders, you can explore an incredible variety of vintage treasures, local produce, handmade crafts and delicious street food, all while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Across multiple stages, you’ll find a dynamic mix of live music, dazzling dance performances, lively street entertainers and carnival rides for all ages.

Join us in the heart of Childers for the main Festival Day on Sunday. It’s the highlight of the weekend and a celebration you won’t want to miss.

the Lake

Experience the magic as the serene banks of Lake Redbrook are transformed into a picturesque, picnic-style haven for Opera by the Lake.

A highlight of the annual Childers Festival, Opera by the Lake has grown into a beloved event, drawing audiences year after year. This year, prepare for a truly special performance featuring renowned tenor and composer David Hobson, joined by one of Australia’s most versatile vocalists and entertainers, Silvie Paladino.

Though David and Silvie, long-time friends from Melbourne, often cross paths, it’s rare for them to perform together, making this a one-of-a-kind event. They will be joined by the incredible local soprano Suellen Cusack, bringing an extra layer of talent to this already exceptional performance.

In an unforgettable afternoon set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Redbrook, the trio will perform a mix of classic Opera and Musical Theatre masterpieces, including La Donna è Mobile, Nessun Dorma, The Impossible Dream, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and many more.

Sugar Mill + Cane Fire Tours

Watch the thrilling spectacle of modern harvesting in action at a local cane farm, then see a locomotive hauling cane bins to the mill. At various stops around the mill, you'll learn all about the sugar cane production process in an engaging and hands-on way.

Join fourth-generation local Warren Martin on a captivating bus tour that takes you beyond the scenic main street of Childers and delves into its rich history. 

Hear tales of heartbreak and humour, heroes and villains and the pivotal events that have shaped this fascinating town. This 90-minute tour explores the traditional custodians of the land, the discovery of the Isis Scrub and the rise of the logging industry, the growth of pastoral and agricultural sectors and the heritage-listed buildings that define the town’s character.

Along the way, you’ll learn about memorable events and the prominent citizens who have left their mark on Childers. Perfect for both visitors and locals, this engaging journey begins at the iconic Paragon Theatre and concludes at the Isis District War Memorial Precinct, where you’ll gain exclusive access to the unique Soldiers Memorial Room.

Join Childers artist Kym Connell for a relaxing, nature-inspired art journaling workshop set in the beautiful surrounds of Russo Nature Park.

Perfect for all skill levels, the workshop includes a gentle return walk of up to 1.5 km and offers the chance to experiment with different art materials while learning how to develop your own nature journal. Kym will guide you every step of the way, sharing tips and techniques to help you notice and sketch the subtle beauty around you.

What to bring: Sun protection, water, enclosed comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a stool or picnic blanket for seated drawing.

What’s provided: A hand-made art journal, pencil and ink pen, plus a selection of extra materials to try during the session.

Savour the region’s finest seasonal produce, renowned for its fresh fruit and vegetables, perfectly paired with the winery’s award-winning, preservative-free wines and fortifieds. All of this is enjoyed in the unique atmosphere of a working winery, offering an immersive experience like no other.

Terrance, the grandson of Sicilian migrants who settled in the Isis district in the early 1900s, takes great pride in both his heritage and his craft. Throughout the evening, he shares captivating stories and anecdotes, adding a personal touch to this exceptional dining experience.

Nestled among the lush vines of Vintner's Secret Vineyard, enjoy a peaceful picnic with the sweet sounds of the Band of the 1st Regiment in a truly serene setting.

Choose a spot at the orchard picnic benches, relax on the viewing deck or bring a rug to unwind under the trees. Bring your own picnic or pre-purchase a gourmet basket for two, featuring a three-course meal, water and sweet treats for $70. Hampers are limited and must be ordered ahead.

The venue is dog-friendly, with shaded areas, tables and chairs available. Enjoy live music, lawn games, and drinks for purchase including beer, wine and soft drinks. Please note, this is a licensed venue and BYO alcohol is not permitted. Stay for an hour or linger longer in this relaxed vineyard garden setting.

The Old Pharmacy

Step back in time at The Old Pharmacy, a captivating visitor attraction home to one of Australia's largest collections of early pharmaceutical history.

Explore fascinating displays featuring medicinal marvels, mineral ingredients, rare specimens, and mysterious potions from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Delve into a rich variety of historical items, including dental, pharmacy, and photographic equipment, as well as antique specimen jars, medicine bottles, and rare medicine books. This impressive collection offers a unique insight into the early development of pharmaceutical practice in Australia.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Built in 1941, Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture, with its intricate design and serene atmosphere offering a peaceful retreat for visitors.

The land beside the Church was once home to a convent and school established by the Sisters of St Joseph, who had been serving the Childers community since 1926.

Nestled at the corner of Churchill and Stewart Streets, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be open to festival visitors, providing an opportunity to explore this historic landmark and reflect on its deep connection to the local community.
